Harry Kent







REST IN PEACE





 

Harry George Kent of Millville, Delaware passed away on Friday, December11, 2015 after a short illness.  He was born in Summit, New Jersey on September 14, 1946 to the late Harry and Dorothy (Schwilk) Kent.  Harry graduated from Madison High School (NJ) in 1965, attended Monmouth University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  He married Linda Liggett Kent in 1972.  After living in Madison for four years they moved to Long Valley, NJ where they resided for 34 years.  After retirement in 2011 Harry and Linda moved to Millville, DE.

Harry worked as a telecommunications and office services manager for The Mennen Company in Morris Plains, NJ for 24 years.  Then he held similar positions at National Starch in Manville, NJ and as a Verizon consultant at Johnson and Johnson in Skillman, NJ.  Harry was a volunteer fireman for most of his adult life, serving as a member and as Chief of the Fairmount Fire Company in Long Valley, NJ.  He also served as Department Fire Chief of Washington Township, NJ. Harry was a long term member of the Masons.  He was a Past Master of Madison, NJ Lodge No. 94 F. & A.M. and Past Patron of Pearl Chapter No. 79 O.E.S of New Jersey.   In Delaware he was Affiliate Past Master of Jefferson Lodge No.15 A.F. & A.M.  

After moving to Delaware Harry became an active participant in Millville town government.  He started as a volunteer and soon was appointed to the Town Council in May, 2012.  For the past two years he served as Town Treasurer.  He recently completed a term as president of the Sussex County Association of Towns (SCAT) (DE).

Harry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Liggett Kent.  Other survivors include his uncle and aunt Herb and Ruth Kent of NJ and several cousins, sister-in-law Patti Cashion and her husband Larry of Cortlandt Manor, NY, nephew Brian Cashion and his wife Melissa of New York City, niece Kimberly Rosendorf and her husband Mitch of Chappaqua, NY and her children Jessica, Brent, and Erica Rosendorf.  

Memorial services will be held at Melson’s Funeral Home in Ocean View, DE on Tuesday December 15, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Masonic service at 7:30 PM. Interment will be at the Somerset Hills Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ with a 1:00 PM service on Wednesday 12/16 by the Fairmount Fire Company No. 1.
